The new memoir from matrescence coach Kelly Conroy shatters social norms by encouraging women and mothers to prioritize fun, and put themselves first.
LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 26, 2026 -- Carrara Media will publish an electric new view on women’s health and well-being with the release of Your Mom Races Rally, an incisive and raw book about patriarchal pressure in America, and how one woman dove headfirst into motorsports — with no previous experience — to escape them. Part-memoir and part call-to-arms for women everywhere, Your Mom Races Rally tells the firsthand account of Kelly Conroy, a 38-year old mother of two, pushed to the brink of exhaustion by her own conditioned expectations to become the “perfect” mom. In a last-ditch effort, Conroy decides to engulf herself in rally racing, a type of motorsport characterized by mud-slinging speed and willingly driving sideways toward a wall of trees. She discovers rally racing is fun, outlandish and frivolous — everything mothers are taught not to be, and everything missing in her own life.
"I needed something that was just for me,” Conroy said. “I wanted a life filled with fun, more connected to who I want to be."

Conroy had never driven a manual transmission before, let alone competed in a real live race. Over the course of two years she prioritized her own joy and sanity, even at the expense of her family’s routine, meal plan and bank account. Conroy attended rally school, wriggled across oil-stained garage floors to upgrade her 40-year old BMW nicknamed “Nessie,” and made her way to the starting line. Along the way, she discovered a vast network of women racers and fellow badasses cheering her on, and set an example for her children to follow their dreams.

Kelly Conroy is a writer, speaker and nature nerd. She is currently a matrescence educator working to empower new moms and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science from the University of California, Davis.
