The Book Process: Printing Life At Shutter Speed
Book publishing requires many levels of quality checks—and double-checks and triple-checks. Here at Carrara Media, we’re in the triple-check stage for Life At Shutter Speed, the 400-page collector’s item by photographer Larry Chen. And we’re bringing you inside the process.
Pictured here is the book’s most recent test print, or proof. Sent by the printer, this type of print is called an Ozalid proof. It allows the publisher to see the entire book in its full production size. The paper quality is not finished, and the images are low-res. But you get to see the whole book.
An Ozalid proof is a great chance to check the pages for sizing, spacing and color bleed. While it’s not quite finished, it’s the first opportunity to see the pages in their full 14x11-inch glory. These images are the first time anyone outside of Carrara Media has seen completed page designs.
Enjoy this inside glimpse and start picking out your favorite spreads. If you haven’t placed a preorder already, click here to reserve your copy today and ensure you receive it before the official release. Life At Shutter Speed is sure to be a stunning addition to any shelf, coffee table or garage.
With the Ozalid proof approved, the book is now moving through its official production. Next we’ll receive finished sample copies, followed by the full finished order. Books preordered through CarraraBooks.com will be shipped prior to the official release date of September 29th.
Stay tuned for more updates as the process continues, along with news about book signings and other events.
