One Year Later: The Groundbreaking Release of ‘We Deserve This’

Victoria Scott had never seen an LGBTQ book combining cars and fashion. So she decided to make one.

Carrara Media published Scott’s collection of photography, entitled We Deserve This, on June 24th, 2024. Immediately upon its release, We Deserve This enjoyed critical acclaim from outlets like Jalopnik and Lavender Magazine, and became a beacon of hope and celebration in the LGBTQ+ community. It was also our top-seller.

To create We Deserve This, Scott organized more than 20 photoshoots across four states: Texas, Michigan, Washington and California. She also paired each model with a different car. Often, it was the owner posing with their personal ride.

The cars themselves ranged far and wide. There were ‘80s and ‘90s classics, SUVs and diesel-powered sedans, quirky Italian roadsters and modern supercars. Each shoot celebrated the queer community’s role in car culture, and it also showed transfeminine people as happy, proud and passionate in the face of increasing discrimination and intolerance.

Today we celebrate the impact of We Deserve This on the publishing world and car culture. Even more, we’re proud that the book shows transfeminine people as their authentic, joyful selves.
